Biography
Born in 1625 in the family of John Mings, a shoemaker from Norfolk (Christopher’s mother was the ferryman’s daughter). In the same year he was baptized, as evidenced by an entry in the Salthouse registers (the parish of St. Catherine). He went from cabins to navy officers ( 1648 ), making a brilliant career during the English Revolution .
In 1653, Mings received the 36-gun ship Elizabeth under his command. Having taken to accompany the convoy of merchant ships to Gothenburg , he became famous for the capture of two Dutch warships.
