The Sleipner type ( Norwegian Sleipner-klasse ) is a series of Norwegian small destroyers , sometimes classified as destroyers . They were designed as universal ships that can also be used as mine-barriers . In 1934 - 1939, three ships of this type were built, sometimes three destroyers of the type “One” are also assigned to it, built according to a substantially modified project. Destroyers of the type "Sleipner" were one of the most modern ships KVMS of Norway by the time of the German invasion . One of them, the Eger , was cast ashore by the crew after the damage inflicted on it by German bombers, and the Güller was captured by German troops, while the Sleipner was the only modern Norwegian warship to go to the UK , where it was used by Norwegian forces throughout the Second World War . After the war, the Sleipner and the Eger in May 1945 were converted into frigates in the mid -1950s before being decommissioned in 1959 .
