Type "Jeanne d'Arc" ( fr. Jeanne d'Arc ) - French cruiser-helicopter carrier or multi-purpose helicopter carrier . It was designed in the late 1950s and was intended primarily to provide anti-submarine defense , being also able to perform the functions of an amphibious assault helicopter . In peacetime, “Joan of Arc” was used as a training ship for training cadets , being able in wartime after minor alterations to be used as a warship. Throughout its history, Jeanne d'Arc has made more than 35 training trips, but has never taken part in real combat operations. In the 2000s, the ship was repeatedly used in humanitarian missions to assist victims of natural disasters in Africa and Southeast Asia . Due to the significant age of the ship and the rising cost of maintaining it, the withdrawal of the “Jeanne d'Arc” from the French Navy was planned for about 2010 . May 27, after returning from his last voyage, was soon written off on June 7, 2010.
