Name Origin
The name of the note is given on the first syllable of the third line dedicated to John the Baptist of the hymn " Ut queant laxis " - mi ra gestorum ("... to glorify miracles ...") - where each subsequent line was performed a tone higher than the previous one. The inventor of such a mnemonic technique (“ Guidon syllable ”) was Guido Aretinsky .
