It was a romantic " idyll in the pictures." After the publication of the poem in the printing house of Plushar in June 1829, several negative reviews appeared on it. In particular, stinging reviews about this poem appeared in N.I. Nadezhdin's magazine “ Moscow Telegraph ”. After that, Gogol and his servant Yakim bought all available copies of his own poem and burned them in his room, so the first edition of the poem is a bibliographic rarity.
The famous story by Annenkov that Gogol, immediately after arriving in St. Petersburg in 1829, went to Pushkin , but found him asleep, as he had “played card games” all night [2] . According to Igor Zolotussky , Gogol went to Pushkin with the poem “Ganz Kuchelgarten”, since Pushkin had nothing more to show him [3] . According to Zolotussky, if Pushkin had read the poem, he would hardly have approved it.
This work was written under the pseudonym V. Alov. Gogol, in the preface to the poem, wrote that it was the work of a young author who needed money. The Ganz Kuchelgarten idyll belonging to Gogol, which was not republished during the writer's life, was first established in the print by P. A. Kulish in an anonymous 1852 note “Several features for N. Gogol’s biography”. Relying on the evidence of N. Ya. Prokopovich , Gogol’s friend and fellow practitioner in the Nizhyn gymnasium, Kulish reported that no one except Prokopovich and the servant Gogol Yakim knew about the real authorship of the poem.
The plot with the burning of the poem “Ganz Kuchelgarten” is included in the storyline of the 2017 film “ Gogol. The beginning of the Russian director Yegor Baranov with Alexander Petrov in the title role.
