Erisichton ( dr. Greek Ἐρυσίχθων “keeper of the earth” or “raking the land”) - in ancient Greek mythology [1] the son of King Thessaly of Triop (according to version, the son of Mirmidon [2] ), the father of Mnestra (Mestra). He is Efon [3] .

According to the story of Ovid, he cut down the sacred oak tree of Demeter, from which the blood of the hamadriad was built [4] . According to Callimachus, 20 of his servants cut down poplar in the grove of Demeter in Dotia (Thessaly) [5] .
For his disrespectful attitude towards the gods, Erisichton was punished by Demeter , who sent him an insatiable hunger. He ate everything that was in the house, spent all his money on food, repeatedly sold his daughter Mnestra into slavery (she could change her appearance and, after the sale, escaped, returning to her father). In the end, Erisichton began to gnaw at his own body, destroying himself.
