The Supreme Islamic Council of Iraq (formerly the Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq , VSIRI ) ( Arabic المجلس الأعلى الإاا المرل ) is a Shiite movement in Iraq of pro - Iranian orientation, organized in 1982 to fight the Saddam Hussein regime [1] . The founder of the movement is Mohammed Bakir Al-Hakim (1939 - 08.29.2003). Currently, the head of the movement is Ammar al-Hakim .

This movement, which was considered the largest opposition organization, declared its readiness to eliminate the regime of Saddam Hussein on its own, only with some military support from the United States of America [2] .
As stated by the founder of the Supreme Council, Mohammed Bakir Al-Hakim, the party did not intend to support the interim administration that the United States intended to form [2] .
The military unit of the Supreme Council — the Badra Organization — by 2004 numbered about 10,000 militants in Iran and Iraq [2] .
