Buena Vista , Spanish Buena Vista is an 8-hectare archaeological site in the Chillon River Valley north of Lima , the capital of Peru . Excavations were first carried out by Frederick Engel (1987). He dated the monument by the radiocarbon method as existing from the Early Preceramic period (about 9700 ± 200 years, i.e., the beginning of 8 thousand BC) to the Early Intermediate period (1960 ± 80 years, or the beginning of BC).
In 2006, archaeologist Robert Benfer of the University of Missouri announced the opening of an observatory dating back to the end of 3 thousand BC. e. (4200 years to the present day ). The observatory received the conditional name "Temple of the Fox." She was on top of a small pyramid. The design features of the temple provide alignment of certain markers with points of the winter and summer solstice [1] [2] . Organic materials found in the temple date from around 2200 BC. e. Thus, the Temple of the Fox is the oldest known observatory in America.
