Creation History
According to the statements of Mark Wahlberg himself, the Beauties were already in the process of development, when his assistant asked to remove him and his friends, calling them “funny” [3] . According to another version, it was Wahlberg’s longtime friend, Eric Weinstein, who proposed the idea of making a film about a successful company of friends of the actor [4] [5] . To make the description of Hollywood life more satirical, the path to creating a fictional story in the series, rather than a strict documentary narrative, was chosen [4] .
It was assumed that Vincent Chase, the protagonist of the series, would be very similar to Wahlberg, but it was decided that part of his story and the history of his friends (especially regarding the moments of their criminal past) would not look good in the series [3] . Therefore, the script was facilitated by a series of events that were not included in the final plot [3] .
However, according to Donnie Carol, who served as the prototype of the hero, nicknamed "Turtle," the idea of a film about a film actor and his friends belongs to him [6] . It occurred to him as a book story telling about the life of Carol and Wahlberg, which he called “From childhood to Hollywood, a soldier’s story” ( Eng. “From the 'Hood to Hollywood, A Soldier's Story” ) [6] .
Roles and characters
The plot of the series Beauty is built around Vincent Chase ( Adrian Grenier ) [7] [8] , a young, assertive actor who ultimately becomes an A-class star. His story is based on a free account of the story of Mark Wahlberg, who is also the executive producer of the series. His best friend and manager, Eric Murphy (Kevin Connelly) [9] - “Rick,” as friends call him, is based on Walberg’s friend and executive producer Eric Weinstein [6] . At the same time, he also received traits from Stephen Levinson - manager Walberg [4] .
Vincent's older brother - Johnny "Drama" Chase ( Kevin Dillon ) also acts as a personal chef and trainer for Vincent. Johnny is a C-Class actor who once played a major role in the TV series The Viking Adventures. His role in the new popular series “Five Cities” begins to revive fading glory. This character is based on Johnny "Drama" Olves (cousin of Mark Wahlberg), whom Donnie Wahlberg asked to look after his younger brother, so that he did not get into any trouble [2] [6] [7] .
Finishes a group of friends of Sal "Turtle" Asante ( Jerry Ferrara ), who is another childhood friend of Vincent. The official role of Turtle is to be the driver and assistant of Vincent, although often its plot value is called into question. This character is based on an old friend of Mark Wahlberg - Don Carroll, nicknamed "Donkey" [2] [6] [7] [10] . Carroll auditioned for this role, but a Boston native did not pass the test when it was decided that the characters would be from New York [6] . Carroll died on December 18, 2005 of an asthma attack [10] .
Ari Gold ( Jeremy Piven ) in the series appears as Vince's slippery but attractive agent. For this role, Piven was nominated several times for the Emmy Award. Ari's hero is based on Wahlberg’s real-life agent, Ari Emanuel [5] [6] [9] .
Kevin Connolly , Adrian Grenier , Kevin Dillon , Jerry Ferrara and Jeremy Piven took part in each episode from the first. Debi Mazar, who played the role of Shona, the episodic hero of the series starting from the first season, returned to him in the second.

There are many minor characters in the series. Sometimes they are played by stars ( Malcolm McDowell , Carla Gugino ), sometimes stars play parodies of themselves ( Mandy Moore , Seth Green ).

Screen adaptation of the series
The full-length tape was released in June 2015, after the film was shot, producer Mark Wahlberg managed to see the rough cut and shared his impressions:
“ I just watched The Beauties.” Fantasy! Really worried about these guys, because the stakes are very high. Director Doug Ellin put so much soul and humor into the film - excellent work. I don’t think we can wait a year before the premiere. We will show the studio film earlier and, possibly, change the date of the premiere, but if we are told to wait for June, we will wait for June.
In other words, the decision was up to Warner Bros.
And Mark added:
- And then I told Doug, they say, let's not wait for the premiere and start planning the next part right now. Naturally, after all, great success awaits us. [eleven]
