Ground structures
The ground lobby of the station was designed by architects E. M. Rapoport , A. Ya. Svirsky and P. I. Yushkantsev. Later, a building was attached to it at 17. Polytechnic Street , 17. There are two exits from the ground lobby to the street: to Courage Square and to the courtyards of Polytechnic Street, but the exit to the courtyards is currently not used.
The name and design of the station commemorates the courage of the defenders and residents of Leningrad during the blockade .
In 2004, the lighting of the ground lobby was replaced.

Underground Structures
“Courage Square” is a single-vault deep-laying station (depth ≈ 67 m), one of the first two in the USSR of this type (the other is “ Polytechnic ”). The underground hall was designed by architects L. L. Schreter, E. M. Rapoport, A. Ya. Svirsky, L. I. Shimakovsky and P. I. Yushkantsev.
The theme of the station is dedicated to the heroism and resilience of Leningrad residents during the Great Patriotic War . This is due to the fact that the station is the closest to the Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery . The track walls are faced with gray marble , the floor is paved with gray granite . The station’s southern end is adorned with the inscription “GLORY TO THE HEROES OF YOU LENINGRAD DEFENSE” (exactly so, there are no commas in the inscription). The opposite, northern, end wall is covered with aluminum stripes with a decorative rivet; it is crowned with a five-pointed star made of stainless steel, illuminated from the inside.
Lighting is realized by original lamps, stylized as cups of eternal flame, installed above the travel zones. The lamps are arranged in groups of three, but the extreme (closest to the ends of the station) lamps are assembled in groups of six.
An inclined course (exit from the station) containing three escalators is located at the southern end of the station. The lower escalator hall is illuminated by sodium lamps located above the tracks.

Repair
In 2005, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Victory, the station was redecorated: the southern end wall was sheathed with composite panels, the inscription on the exit to the city was restored and gilded.
In 2010, the replacement of the facing of the track walls [2] . The leadership of the subway explained the need for such repairs by the appearance of cracks in the decoration of the track walls (primarily on the consoles of lamps) [3] .
In 2017, lighting was replaced, the brightness of the lamps was increased.
Track Development
Even during the construction of the station to the north, a woolly congress was provided between the main routes, since it was planned that this station was to become the terminal. The plans were changed due to the erosion of 1974 , as a result of which the Lesnaya station became the final station. Liquidation of the consequences of the accident was carried out simultaneously with the construction of the next section of the line, therefore, when the station was opened, the Academic one became the final one, however, a revolving tunnel behind the Courage Square was still built (without tracks), as it turned out later, not in vain.
In 1995, a new erosion occurred. In this regard, from December 6 to 25, 1995, rails were mounted in a revolving tunnel for the possibility of train traffic. Passenger traffic was carried out along the ramp - only the 2nd main route was used at the station. On the eve of the restoration of through traffic along the line, from June 11 to 20, 2004, the tracks in the revolving tunnel were dismantled as unnecessary.
A bus of route No. 80 is connected to this station, which during the erosion shuttled between Lesnaya and Ploschad Vuzhstva. After the liquidation of the accident, the authorities promised in memory of this circumstance to no longer assign this number to the bus routes of St. Petersburg. [4] . This decision, however, was observed no more than ten years.
