Initially, he was involved in tennis , and was part of the Finnish national tennis team, which participated in the qualifying matches in the 1968 Davis Cup . In the same year he made his debut in the Finnish Formula V racing championship, in 1970 he competed in the European Formula 3 championship. In 1971-75, he participated in the European Formula Super Vi Cup, where he won four victories in 1975, and in the same year became the vice champion of the German Formula Super Vi championship. In 1976 he made his debut in the European Formula 2 championship, where he initially started in the ATS team, but after several unsuccessful races he moved to the Ron Dennis team “Project Four Racing”, where he also did not succeed and stopped playing in the championship three races before it ended . In 1977, he participated in the Formula Pacific Championship, twice participated in the Grand Prix of the Formula 1 World Championship (in Sweden he did not qualify, but in the UK he crashed his car and broke his arm during pre-qualification). In 1978, he entered into an agreement with the Tiga company, which was planning to make its debut in the Formula 1 World Cup in its own car, but after the cessation of the creation of the Tiga car, it ended its racing career. In the 1990s, he was the manager of his son Nicholas, who also performed in car races.
