Description

The stem is bluish or dull green, spherical, becomes cylindrical with age, reaches a height of 50 cm and a diameter of 20 cm. The ribs are about 15, they are divided into segments by transverse grooves. On areoles, gray pubescence.

The central spine is one, slightly curved at the end, with a reddish base. There are about 10 radial spines; they are of the same color, 1-2 cm long.

The flowers are cream, funnel-shaped, large, 6-7 cm long.

There is a variety of nigrum with a stem of black-green color and black spines.

Distribution

Distributed in southern Argentina , in the provinces of Chubut , Rio Negro and La Pampa .
