Biography
Born September 1, 1946 in the village of Ponha, Gimhae ( Gyeongsangnam-do Province ), in the family of a poor peasant. Studying was easy for him; he was a diligent student. After school, he, as a gifted student, was accepted for free tuition at the Busan commercial school, which he graduated in 1966. In 1975, he passed the state exam, which gives the right to engage in legal activities. After a mandatory two-year internship at the Law Institute of Research and Training, No Moo Hyun worked as a judge for eight months in Daejeon, and in 1978 opened his own law office.
In 1985 he became one of the leaders of the organization "Busan Democratic Civil Council." In 1987 he was elected chairman of the Busan branch of the Civil Movement for the Adoption of a Democratic Constitution. In 1987 he was arrested and was temporarily deprived of a lawyer's license. Since 1988, No Mu Hyun has been a member of parliament from the Democratic Party of the National Association (Thonil Mingjudan).
He gained fame thanks to a speech at the parliamentary hearings on the corruption case of Chung Doo-hwan . In 1990, he resigned from parliament, protesting against the actions of the United Party, whose representatives made up the parliamentary majority. Since 1991 - leader of the United Democratic Party.
He did not go to parliament in the elections of 1992, 1996 and 2000. Lost in the mayoral election of Busan in 1995. However, he won and became a member of parliament in 1998. In 2000-2001 - Minister of Maritime and Fisheries.
He won the presidency of South Korea in 2002 and in 2003 took office as president. He promised voters to pursue a policy of rapprochement with the DPRK , move the capital to Daejeon , where he worked as a judge, replace the six-day working week with a five-day one.
He continued his rapprochement with the United States and Japan , and paid much attention to cooperation with the countries of the Asian region. Under No Mu Hyun, there was economic growth and economic development in South Korea .
Personal life
He was married, had a son and daughter. Religious preferences were absent. Among the main hobbies were hiking and bowling .
Suicide
May 23, 2009 But Mu Hyun, in connection with the charge of receiving $ 6 million as a bribe from Taekwang Ind Co., Ltd., a textile company in Busan ( cor. 태광 실업 ? , 泰 光 實業? ), Committed suicide , jumping from the Owl's cliff ( cor. 부엉이 바위 ) on Mount Ponhvasan ( cor. 봉화산 ? , 烽火 山? ), which is located in his native village of Ponha ( cor. 봉하 ) (in Gimhae ).
