Puyupatamarca ( Quechua Puyupatamarka ) - an archaeological monument in Peru , the ruins of a pre-Columbian fortress period.
Located on a mountain at an altitude of about 3500 meters above sea level.
Also known as “ La Ciudad entre la Niebla ” - “ City in the Clouds ”. The name was given in view of the fact that the slopes of the mountain below are covered with a rain forest, from which fogs rise and it seems that the city is above the clouds.
Little is known about the city so far - even its exact name is not known, Puyupatamarca - this is how Indians-guides called this place the discoverer of these places Paul Fejos ( en: Paul Fejos ), expedition in 1940-42. No serious archaeological research has been carried out in this area. However, there is reason to believe that the city played a significant role in the Inca Empire, being a religious and administrative center.
Among the ruins there are ritual baths, the water in which came from the Incas canals - for the passage of rituals of purification with water.
