He graduated from the organ class of the St. Petersburg Conservatory at Louis Homilius .

In 1903 - 1907 conductor of the Riga Latvian Society Theater, since 1918 , conductor of the Latvian National Opera. Professor of the organ class of the Latvian Conservatory (since 1919 ), in 1935 - 1937 . rector of the conservatory. Among the students of Joseus, in particular, Marger Zarins and Leonids Vigners .

Daughter of Josephus Aldona Joseus (1908–1991) headed the library of the Latvian Conservatory for over 60 years.
