At the World Cup in 1986, in the 1/8 finals match against the USSR, Kulemans scored an offside goal, which allowed the Belgian national team to put the game into overtime and then defeat the USSR [2] . In 1990, after the next World Cup, Jan Kulemans decided to leave the team.

In total, he spent 13 seasons for Brugge , despite even offers from the European football giant Milan . [3]

After the 1991 season, Coulemans decided to end his football career and become a coach due to a serious knee injury. In 1992, Jan became the head coach of the Endracht club , which he brought to the top division of Belgium, and with whom he got into the UEFA Cup qualification .
