Biography

Valdivia’s career began at the Kolo-Kolo club, but due to the large number of strong players in the club and due to his undisciplined behavior outside the football field, Valdivia never got his chance to play in the main team, and therefore Valdivia was given away to rent to another Chilean club - Universidad de Concepcion . There, the talent of Valdivia began to reveal itself in all its glory, he became one of the most promising players in the championship and received his nickname - “Mage”. During the game for Universidad, Valdivia got the opportunity to play for the national team of Chile up to 23 years old (Olympic team), which was selected for the Olympics. The game in the Chilean championship opened Valdivia the road to Europe, he went to Spain, to the club of the second Spanish division, “ Rayo Vallecano ”, but there the Chileans were not trusted and were hardly allowed out onto the field. After the season at Rayo, Valdivia went to the Swiss club Servette , where he began to play and even won a place at the base, but due to the bankruptcy of the team, the footballer was forced to return to Kolo-Kolo.

Already an experienced football player, Valdivia was able to quickly become a player in the base of “Kolo-Kolo”, moreover, he was able to make his debut in the national team of Chile, which made a tour preceding the 2006 World Cup , which the Chileans did not make, but Valdivia was the best in matches played. In 2006, Kolo-Kolo, led by its leader Valdivia, became the country's champion. Of course, the brilliant game of the football player could not but attract the attention of the leaders of other clubs, among which were the Argentinean River Plate and Boca Juniors , Boca even made an official offer for 1.5 million dollars. The most active in the desire to see Valdivia in their ranks were the leaders of the Brazilian Palmeiras , where the Chilean moved in August 2006 for $ 4 million. The start in Brazilian football at Valdivia was not particularly successful and the fans began to blame the leadership for an expensive purchase, but soon Valdivia adapted to the club and Brazilian football and became the team leader, and at the end of the season received the prize for the best foreigner in the Brazilian championship. In the first half of 2008, “Palmeiras” with Valdivia as a member won the Sao Paulo championship , in the final defeating the Ponte Preta club with a score of 5: 0, Valdivia scored the third goal.

On August 15, 2008, Valdivia moved to the club from Al Ain UAE for 8 million euros, signing a contract for 4 years, during which he will be paid 17 million euros, thus Valdivia became the most expensive and highest paid player in UAE history. In the same August, he returned to the Chilean national team, after a break of more than a year, playing in a friendly match against the national team representing the country in which he will play. In the very first game for the club against the Sharija team, Valdivia scored a goal in the first half, and in the second match he made a double against Al-Shabab , Valdivia scored both goals with free-kicks. In 2009, Valdivia became the captain of Al Ain, which led to the winning of the UAE President's Cup and the UAE Super Cup . For his performances, Valdivia received the prize for the best player in the UAE championship .

In August 2010, Valdivia moved to Palmeiras [2] .

On December 20, 2011, Valdivia, along with four other players, was disqualified by the Chilean Football Federation for having arrived at the location of the national team at night while intoxicated [3] . Valdivia, the only one of all the players, challenged the disqualification by appealing, but the Chilean Football Federation’s Control and Disciplinary Commission upheld it [4] .
