Village Overview
Geography
Yerdovo is located in the northern part of Chuvashia, 24 kilometers southeast of the city of Cheboksary . The village is located between the rivers Tsivil and Ryksha , not far from the confluence of Ryksha into Civil.
History
According to some reports, the settlement that existed on the site of the modern village of Yerdovo ("Erdovskoye hillfort") was burned by the Mongol-Tatar troops during the western campaign of the Mongols in 1236 - 1242 . At the site of the settlement, a yurt camp was set up for ordinary soldiers of the army, while the military authorities were located on the territory of modern Atlashevo . The second time the settlement was destroyed by the troops of Ivan IV the Terrible , apparently during the Kazan campaigns of the Moscow prince , taking place in the first half of the XVI century .
Name Origin
There are two versions of the origin of the modern name of the village. The first of them suggests that the name of the village came from the name of a resident of the neighboring village of Yambulatovo - a certain Yartu, who built the first house of the future village in 1565 , after its destruction as a result of the campaigns of Ivan the Terrible.
According to another version, the name of the village was given by a local peculiarity: near the village there is a hillock Khushka-tu, where snow persists on the northern side for a long time after winter . Therefore, even in late spring from afar, it looks like a snow mountain, in Chuvash - “yurla tu”. Hence the name of the village - Yurtukassy.
