Construction History
In February - April 1977, a swarm of earthquakes occurred under the volcano - more than 200 tremors - with a focus depth of more than 20 km, the reason for which is called the fact of drilling operations at the geothermal field "Hot Beach". It is also possible that earthquakes could be associated with the activation of the magma chamber of the volcano at a depth of 4-5 km (see the main article on the Mendeleev volcano ). [2]
The start of construction of the GeoTES dates back to the 90s of the 20th century: the customer-developer is the Kurils Program Directorate, the general designer is Sakhalingrazhdanproekt Institute OJSC, and the general contractor is Yuzhno-Kurilskaya Energy CJSC. Timeline of construction:
- 1993 - the beginning of construction
- 2002 - the first start-up complex of the Mendeleev GeoTES with a capacity of 1.8 MW was commissioned as part of the Tuman-2A energy module and station infrastructure.
- 2003 - a 35.3 kV transmission line with a length of 12.3 km was built and commissioned, and the second Tuman-2A power module was installed.
- 2006 - Geo TPP was supposed to be brought to full design capacity (3.6 MW) due to the launch of the second power module.
- 2007 - commissioning of the III stage of heat supply, providing 100% heat demand in the village. Yuzhno-Kurilsk.
The development of alternative energy sources in the Kuril Islands and the development of geothermal sources is one of the areas of the federal target program “Social and Economic Development of the Kuril Islands (Sakhalin Region) for 2007-2015” [3] , approved by Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of August 9, 2006 No. 478.
Federal support for the socio-economic development of the Kuril Islands was carried out under the federal target program “Socio-economic development of the Kuril Islands of the Sakhalin Region (1994-2005)”, approved by Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of December 17, 2001 N 872 ... As part of the implementation of the Program in the energy complex put into operation: ... on the island of Kunashir - the Mendeleev energy complex (GeoTES "Mendeleev") with a capacity of 1.8 MW ... In the village. Yuzhno-Kurilsk needs to complete the construction of the Mendeleev GeoTPS with a capacity of 3.6 MW. With the commissioning of the facility, coal savings will amount to 7 - 10 thousand tons per year, and diesel fuel - more than 4 thousand tons per year ..
- Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of August 9, 2006 No. 478
At the end of 2010, the installed electric capacity of the station was 3.6 MW . In November 2011, work began on the modernization of the complex in order to increase capacity to 7.4 MW. [four]
In 2016, the Mendeleev Geo-TPP was decommissioned [1] .
