Contraceptive sabotage

Birth control sabotage is an attempt by one of the sexual partners to interfere with the efforts of another to prevent unwanted conception. Examples of contraceptive sabotage are replacing birth control pills with a placebo, piercing condoms , or simply threats and violence. [one]

Several studies that have focused on contraceptive sabotage by men against women have shown a close relationship between domestic violence and contraceptive sabotage, and have also identified two main types of contraceptive sabotage [2] :

  • Verbal sabotage - verbal or emotional pressure not to use contraception;
  • Behavioral sabotage - the use of force to prevent the use of contraception or to force a partner to have unprotected sex.
