Biography
He was born in 1912 in the village of Big Staritsa (now Great Staritsa ) of the Borisopolsky district of the Kiev province in a family of peasants. Before the start of World War II, he worked on a collective farm , did not join the Communist Party . In 1941, with the outbreak of war, Stasyuk was drafted into the Red Army , in July of that year - sent to the front. At first he was an ordinary sapper, then he became the commander of the sapper department. Participated in the battle of Stalingrad , was subsequently awarded the medal "For the Defense of Stalingrad . " In November 1943, when the troops of the 1st Ukrainian Front were crossing the Dnieper in the Vyshgorod area, Stasyuk commanded a group of pontoons transporting infantry and equipment. Within five days, on his pontoon, he delivered to the right bank of the river an infantry battalion, two mortar companies, a company of machine gunners and two guns. On the night of November 1 to 2, during the shelling of the crossing, the Stasyuk pontoon rolled over, and two of the neighbors drowned. The sergeant organized the rescue of the wounded and personally participated in it. November 20, 1943, Nikita Ivanovich Stasyuk died during the transport of troops across the Dnieper to the Lyutezhsky bridgehead.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of November 13, 1943, for the courage and bravery shown during the crossing of the Dnieper, Sergeant Nikita Ivanovich Stasyuk was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union .
