Story
The action takes place in the summer of 1971 in Siberia , where a geological exploration expedition led by Ivan Kopyrev works near the village of Erbogachyon . Dry and hot weather contributes to the implementation of the plan, but the work is hampered by the presence of permafrost , which interferes with drilling operations. Violating the fire regulations, the master decides to use fire to thaw the permafrost. However, it is impossible to control the fire in dry windy weather, resulting in a taiga fire .
The remains of the forest after a major forest fire that threatened the village of Yerbogachyon in the Irkutsk Region in 1971 became the nature for filming.
The prototype of one of the heroes of the film and the novel on which the film was shot - Rucheva - district committee secretary Georgy Pavlovich Masyagin.
