Young years
Born into a peasant family. In the Red Army since 1940. In 1945 he graduated from the Leningrad Air Force Academy of the Red Army [1] . During the training, he underwent a long military training in 1943-1944 in the fighter aviation regiment of the active army of the Great Patriotic War on the 1st Ukrainian Front as a regiment technician.
The first post-war years
Since 1945, Lieutenant Shabanov is a test engineer, then an assistant to a leading engineer for testing aviation equipment at the Air Force Research Institute . In 1949 he was transferred to Special Bureau No. 1 (SB-1) of the USSR Ministry of Arms (now OJSC Almaz Scientific-Production Enterprise), where he took part in the development and testing of the first in our country Aviation Radio-controlled System Comet , in the composition of which included a Tu-4 carrier aircraft with an on-board radar and a projection guidance station and a winged projectile itself with an autopilot and homing station. He was engaged in the development of the main blocks of guidance equipment and homing projectiles. In 1952, the Comet system successfully passed state tests and was put into service.
At design work
Since the mid-1950s, he was the chief designer of Special Bureau No. 1 (SB-1) , led the development of the K-20 and K-22 systems, which were intended to destroy ground targets. Both of these systems also successfully passed state tests and were put into service; they were installed on Tu-95 and Tu-22M aircraft. For the creation of the K-22 system for V. M. Shabanov, he was awarded the State Prize for the second time. In the 60s, SKB No. 1 developed the famous S-300P anti-aircraft missile system.
Since 1972, V. M. Shabanov is the General Director of the Almaz Central Design Bureau , which created anti-aircraft missile systems.
In leadership work
Since 1974 - Deputy Minister of Radio Industry of the USSR [1] , oversaw the work on the creation of defense radio equipment.
Since 1978 - Deputy Minister of Defense of the USSR . Since November 1980 - Deputy Minister of Defense of the USSR for weapons. Colonel General Engineer (1978). He supervised the work on adopting a number of the most modern types of weapons and military equipment for that time (strategic and ground based missile systems, space reconnaissance systems, etc.). It was under the leadership of Shabanov that the world - famous Su-25 attack aircraft , Mi-24 helicopter, Tu-160 , Su-27 , MiG-29 aircraft , the third generation of tanks ( T-80 ), and the airborne combat vehicle ( BMD- ) were put into service . 2 ), a new wheeled armored personnel carrier BTR-80 with a diesel engine and enhanced armor protection, the Tochka missile system, the Cube anti-aircraft missile system, the Nona-S self-propelled gun, the Msta howitzer, and others.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of November 2, 1981, he was awarded the military rank of " Army General ."
Since 1990 - in the Group of Inspectors General of the Minister of Defense of the USSR . Since 1992 - retired. He lived in Moscow .
Died July 30, 1995. He was buried at Kuntsevsky cemetery .
