Biography

In 1943, Iraida's parents escaped from besieged Leningrad , the family began to live in the village of Sverdlovsk Shchelkovsky district . The father, who commanded the automobile division, left the family in 1944, leaving his wife in the third month of pregnancy, and in November Iraida was born [3] . After the war ended in the summer of 1946, the family returned to Leningrad [4]

Iraida Vasilievna Spasskaya writes about herself [5] :

And they called me Iraida in honor of Iraida Maslennikova, who shared a food parcel with her brother Boris during those hungry years, and he insisted that I be christened like that. Father left us when I was not born yet, mom was in the third month.

Since the 2000s, Iraida Vasilievna has been working as a teacher of drafts at St. Petersburg Gymnasium No. 56 , and also trains future world champions.

Successfully played in Russian and international drafts, in tournaments among men.

From an interview with the newspaper St. Petersburg Vedomosti , 08/10/2007:

- You, Iraida Vasilievna, have made great strides not only in Russian drafts, but also in international (hundred-cell) drafts. Was it difficult to switch to a large board?

- In Russian drafts, we have no right to make a mistake. Here, if a player surpasses an opponent in class and knowledge, he will usually always win. Work and studies require painstaking, hard work. We collected options in crumbs, developed ideas, and then applied it on the board. In the seventies, the chairman of the central council of the DSO "Spartak" Vladimir Ilyich Vekshin, at my request, organized the first women's tournament in international drafts in Tashkent. After this competition, women began to play in hundred cells. At the first unofficial USSR championship, I took second place after Elena Mikhailovskaya and in the same year I ended up in Holland at the first world championship. There I got a silver medal. For this success I should have been awarded the title of Grandmaster, but only an international master was given. The grandmaster was appropriated later, in 1991, for old merits.
