Biography
Born in Vilna. He studied at the gymnasium named after Sigismund Augustus. Then he studied physics and astronomy, later history and Polish philology at Stefan Batory University . He participated in the activities of the literary group “Żagary” ( “Жагары” ). Since 1932 he taught history at the gymnasium.
During the Second World War he lived in Vilna, then in Krakow . During the Nazi occupation, he earned his living by physical labor. He took part in the activities of the Polish underground. After World War II, he lived in Lodz , then in Krakow.
He died in Krakow and was buried in the Salvator Cemetery .
Literary activity
Already while studying at the University of Stefan Batory, together with a group of writers ( Theodor Buinitsky , Cheslav Milos , Jerzy Putrament ) founded and edited the journal Жagary ( „agary ). He later joined the Catholic Renaissance movement and edited the two-week Pax. After World War II, he worked in Krakow as the editor of the weekly Tygodnik Powszechny and the magazine Znak . Used the pseudonyms Jerzy Tikhotsky , Jan Karol Weida , Goa .
In the work of Golubev, the main place is occupied by historical subjects. The first novel , Mędrcy na scenie, was released in 1935 . Later, collections of short stories “Na drodze” ( 1966 ), “Spotkanie na Świętokrzyskiej” ( 1975 ), the memoir-genealogical cycle “Kazimierzówka” ( 1981 ), memoirs “Największa przygoda mojego życia“ ( 1981 ), and dramatic chronicle 1985 ), the parable “W żółtej poczekalni dworcowej pod zegarem” ( 1985 ), as well as collections of essays and essays on religious-philosophical and historical-literary subjects “Listy do przyjaciela” , “Gdy chcemy się modlić” ( 1955 ), “Poszuki 1960 ), Unoszeni historią ( 1971 ), Świadkowie przemian ( 1974 ).
Golubev's most famous work is the series of novels Bolesław Chrobry , which includes Puszcza ( 1947 ), Szło Nowe ( 1947 ), Złe dni (two parts, 1950 ), Rozdroża (volume 1 1954 , volume 2 1955 ), Wnuk ( 1974 ).
He received many literary prizes, including in 1951 the V. Petzhak Prize.
