“ About Fedot-Archer, Daring Fellow ” - a play and the most famous poetic work by Leonid Filatov , based on the Russian folk tale “Go there - I don’t know where, bring it — I don’t know what”. First published in the journal Yunost , 1987, No. 3. Immediately gained popularity, and the use of fairy-tale characters in combination with Filatov's bright speech and hard satirical remarks contributed to success.

Heroes and Story
The plot of the work is traditional for many Russian folk tales : the king, wanting to wilt the archer and marry his wife, devises tests for the protagonist. The last of these tests is to get "something that the world cannot do . " The decision of the successful hero of this complex task leads the king to lose the throne .
Traditional heroes of the work are the king, the commandant (general at Filatov), Fedot-Archer, his wife (Marussia), Baba Yaga, the fellows helpers (Tit Kuzmich and Frol Fomich) and the matchmaker Naum ( Voice or To-Chavo-Ne-Can -Be In addition to the heroes of the original source, Leonid Filatov added a princess and a nurse to the narration, as well as secondary characters - foreign ambassadors. Summary
Sagittarius Fedot serves the king. The latter sends him to the hunt and orders him to provide the game for the king to have dinner with the English ambassador. But Fedot was not lucky: he did not come across a single bird. When he tried to shoot a pigeon , she turned into a red girl Marusia, whom Fedot married. Marusya has magical powers. Saving her husband from the punishment of the king, she calls two hefty young men, Titus Kuzmich and Frol Fomich, who can do everything she orders. Thanks to them, dishes appear on the royal table.
The king does his diplomacy with the English ambassador, hoping that he will marry his daughter. She is not beautiful enough to attract applicants for her hand. The princess and her old nurse are unhappy and object to marrying the ambassador, whom they find greedy and stupid.
After lunch, the general comes to the king and tells him about Fedot's new beautiful wife. The king begins to plan how to get rid of the archer and marry Marus. He orders the general to find an impossible task for Fedot, and if the main character does not fulfill him, he will be executed for incompetence.
The general goes to the forest where Baba Yaga lives and asks her advice. With the help of his magic, Yaga finds a way: the king must order Fedot to get him a gold-stitched carpet by tomorrow, so that the whole country (in this case, Russia) can be seen on the map like on the map . So it happens. Fedot is saddened, but his wife and her magic helpers solve this problem and bring a carpet the next morning.
Although the king is trying to appear happy, he is distressed and again calls for the general, threatening him with punishment if the task is not given. The general is also distressed. He returns to Baba Yaga, and she gives him another piece of advice. This time, the king orders Fedot to find him the next day a deer with golden horns, which is not believed to exist at all. But Maroussia and her servants help the main character to execute this order as well.
The king forces his general, and the last one forces Baba Yaga, and the last test is ready. It lies in the fact that Fedot found "That-Chavo-On-White-Light-Voobche-Not-Can-Be." Even Tit Kuzmich and Frol Fomich cannot complete this task, which is so poorly described. Then the protagonist himself goes on a campaign, and his young wife stays at home. A few days later, the king comes to her with wedding gifts, despite the fact that the nurse only does what mocks him for it. Maroussia refuses to betray her husband to the old and vile king. She turns into a pigeon and flies away.
Meanwhile, Fedot travels around the world in search of Togo-Chavo-Not-Can-Be. He decides to go to America , but his ship falls into a storm, and Fedot is on the uninhabited island Buyan. Its only inhabitant is a disembodied voice. It is a powerful spirit that lives a dull life: it can bring itself any benefit, but misses human society. The protagonist realizes that he has found To-Chavo-Not-Maybe-Be, and asks the latter to join him on the way back to Russia.
After returning home, Fedot discovers that while he was absent, the king destroyed his house. Maroussia tells her husband about what happened, and Fedot convenes a people who will help him avenge the king for injustice. They are starting an uprising and storming the royal palace. The king, his general and Baba Yaga try to blame each other. The people sentenced all three to exile on Buyan Island. Then Fedot refuses to marry the princess, promising to find her another husband, his twin . The play ends with a feast , which is equipped with the magic of Togo-Chavo-Not-Can-Be.
Lexical features
The play is written in the style of Russian folk tales. However, for the comic effect, modern words were introduced there, as in the “colloquial” form: “teach solfeggia” (tsar), “wait until you finish your meeting” or “just to the colletifit” (To-Chavo-Not -Can-Be)), and in the usual (“for me, all the politics in the country” (Fedot), “al in Milan salad lacks truffles” (Marussia), “a whole weaving mill” (the king).
Staging and Screening
A lot of performances have been staged for this work in various theaters in Russia and the CIS, and films have been made. In 1988, the television drama “About Fedot-Archer, Daring Fighter” was released, in which Leonid Filatov appeared in the one- man theater genre.
In 2002, an audio performance was released as part of the Leonid Filatov Theater project. This rare audio version in the reading of actors of the theater and cinema was published as early as 1988 (dir. A. Gorovatsky), but remained unknown to most listeners.

In culture
The tale is written based on the Russian folk tale "Go there - I do not know where, bring it - I do not know what." Also known is the reworking of this plot by Vladimir Dalem under the title “The Tale of Ivan, a Young Sergeant”. Fedot-Archer appears in the novel “ The Island of Russia ” by Yulia Burkina and Sergey Lukyanenko (1997).
In 1990, in the journal "Chemistry and Life" was published "A Tale of Endless Pro Fedot the Fellow," written in the same satirical style.
