Biography
Mikhail Glebovich Marmulev was born on November 8, 1917 in the village of Artyomovka, Smolensk province [1] . After graduating from a seven-year school in Suetovo, he worked as a bricklayer in Smolensk . In 1938 he was drafted into the army, graduated from the Leningrad Artillery School (1941), and served on the border in Western Belarus.
Participation in the Great Patriotic War and feat
The war found him on the border, in battles from the first days and in the first days he was wounded. Sent to a hospital in which near Minsk he was surrounded. With those wounded who could hold weapons, he went into the woods. Gradually, small detachments merged, forming a partisan detachment, called the "Petrel". By the end of 1941, Mikhail was the head of the reconnaissance detachment, and since July 1942 - the commander. In the fall of 1943, the detachment grew to a brigade. The partisans carried out more than 130 military operations (more than 100 under the leadership of Mikhail Glebovich).
In the very first battle, 2 enemy vehicles and about 50 Nazis were destroyed. In another battle, 15 carts were destroyed, in which 120 fascists moved. He was nicknamed the "ambush king" in the Belarusian forests. At the end of July 1943, the Nazis still tracked down one of the partisan groups. Marmulev with 18 partisans was surrounded. For more than 2 hours, a handful of partisans fought off a numerically superior enemy. Marmulev was seriously wounded, but, lying on a stretcher, continued to lead the battle. After the battle of Marmulev with a damaged spine, the partisans carried the whole night on a stretcher. By plane, he was sent to the hospital. In 1944 he returned to the squad.
In 1944, the brigade acted together with units of the Red Army and liberated Belarus. Partisans destroyed more than one hundred enemy soldiers, captured 975 soldiers and officers. Michael during this time was wounded 4 times.
On August 15, 1944, by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR for exemplary performance of government tasks in the fight against Nazi invaders behind enemy lines and courage and bravery shown for special merits in the development of the partisan movement in Belarus, Mikhail Glebovich Marmulev was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with presentation of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 4061).
In 1944, after a serious injury and prolonged treatment, he did not return to the front.
