Gusev, Evgeny Nikolaevich

Eugene Nikolayevich Gusev (1879 - 1919) - Russian military commander, colonel, participant in the First World and Civil Wars in Russia, leader of the White movement. The pioneer of the combat use of armored vehicles .

Born in Kaluga on December 10, 1879 (according to the St. Petersburg Trophy Commission, Gusev was born on December 7, 1880), came from noblemen of the Kaluga province [1] . He graduated from the Skopinsky Theological School, in 1900 he entered the 140th Zaraisk Infantry Regiment , from which he was sent to the Kazan Military School , as a volunteer. At the end of the 1905 course of science, he was promoted to second lieutenant and was assigned to the 37th Yekaterinburg Infantry Regiment , where he was appointed commander of hunters.

During the first Russian revolution, he was sent to the mobilized 10th machine gun company, in which he took part in the suppression of riots in Kronstadt . In 1907 he returned to the Yekaterinburg regiment, where he received a machine gun command under his command.

With the outbreak of World War I, with the rank of headquarters captain, he took part in battles in Galicia and on August 15, 1914, was shell-shocked in a battle near the village of Lashchev near Pavlov and was seriously injured a day later near Vazhuchin. He was evacuated to the central provinces of Russia for treatment. By the highest order of April 6, 1915 for the difference in the battles near Pavlov he was awarded the Order of St. George 4th degree.

Upon recovery, in May 1915, he was sent to the newly formed armored machine-gun units and received the 42nd machine-gun platoon in command, for the difference in battles he was awarded the Order of St. Stanislav 3rd degree. Produced as lieutenant colonel Gusev, from June 1, 1916 he was appointed head of the 9th armored car compartment.

After the October Revolution, he served in the Volunteer Army and the Armed Forces of the South of Russia . In 1918 he was promoted to colonel ; since August 1919 he was commander of the armored car division of the Don Army. He was killed on September 29, 1919 in a battle with units of the Red Army near Berdyansk .
