Vasudeva Ghosh and his brothers, Madhava and Govinda , were close associates of Caitanya and Nityananda . [1] [2] They are known for performing melodic kirtans and using their musical talent to preach Gaudiya Vaishnavism in Bengal. [2] It is described that whenever they sang, Caitanya and Nityananda immediately began to dance in spiritual ecstasy . [2] Each year, the Ghosh brothers came to Ratha Yatra in Puri , where they led one of seven groups of musicians in kirtan that Chaitanya organized. [2]
Vasudeva Ghosh is the author of a number of songs dedicated to Chaitanya in Bengali . In one of his bhajans, he says: “If Lord Gaura did not appear in this age of Kali , how could we endure this life? He gave the very essence, the very charm of life - divine love, without which it is impossible to live in this world. If it were not for Caitanya Mahaprabhu, how could we know that Srimati Radharani is the Supreme Queen in the realm of divine love? Having received all this from Lord Gaurahari , we now think that it makes sense to live this life. ” In another bhajana, Vasudeva Ghosh says: “In Your previous lila as Lord Ramacandra , You gained fame by erecting a floating stone bridge across the ocean to Sri Lanka . But now, in this Kali-yuga , You have given us the harinama-sankirtana bridge, thanks to which even the lame and blind can cross the sea of birth and death and attain the highest spiritual happiness. ”
According to Gaudiya-Vaishnava theology , in the eternal pastimes of Radha-Krishna Vasudeva Ghosh - these are sakhis named Gunatunga. In area 64 samadhi in Vrindavan, there is a pushpa samadhi of Vasudeva Ghosh. [2]
