Story
The middle of the XVIII century . The colonial division of North America continues. The struggle of England and France for territorial dominance divided and made enemies Indian tribes and European settlers.
Having met by chance, two completely different people, Harry March and Nathaniel Bampo , head to the lake called The Shimmering Mirror . St. John's wort should help his Indian friend Chingachguku to wrest his beloved Wah-Wah-Wah from the hands of a hostile tribe, while Harry seeks the heart of the beautiful Judith, who lives on the lake with her sister and her elderly father Thomas Hatter. As the plot develops, the characters are drawn into a military conflict with a hostile Indian tribe.
The film shows the lives of the pioneers of North America and their relationship with the indigenous people of the mainland from two sides: the Indians and the whites have their own truth. The authors of the film glorify the beauty of the primeval nature of the American continent, show the cruelty and senselessness of war, glorify honesty, resourcefulness, friendship. Noting aesthetically and ethically noticeably from East German westerns familiar to the Soviet viewer, with a high degree of conditionality (and idealization) depicting the prairie Indians of later times, the film met with a lack of understanding on the part of critics in the Soviet press.
Filming took place on three lakes located not far from each other: Tonka and Nelsha in the Yuzhsky district of the Ivanovo region and Shchara in the Vyaznikovsky district of the Vladimir region .
