Biography
Igor Aleksandrovich Kaberov was born in the village of Nikulinskoye [1] of the Vologda province . At the end of 7 classes he worked as a mechanic at the Vologda Car Repair Plant . He went in for sports under the supervision of M. L. Kulikov . In 1938 he graduated from the flight school of Osoaviahim in Koktebel , then worked as an instructor in the Novgorod flying club.
From 1939 to the Navy , in 1940 he graduated from the Yeisk Naval Aviation School . Since June 1941 at the front. He won his first air victory on August 4, 1941, having shot down an enemy Me-109 , in the same month he tried to ram an enemy Ju-88 on an I-16 , but without success, however, managed to land his plane. Since August 21, moved to LaGG-3 .
In September 1941, he participated in intense battles near Leningrad , sometimes making 6-7 sorties per day. Together with the Hero of the Soviet Union G. D. Kostylev participated in air battles over the battleship "Marat" .
On November 2, the link, which included Kostylev and Kaberov, intercepted in the area of the Sommers island and destroyed the Finnish Security Council (Soviet-made bomber, which Finland got as a trophy). Later, Kostylev, flying with Kaberov, mistakenly shot down his I-153 fighter, controlled by Lieutenant Colonel Biskup, the chief of staff, who survived by a lucky chance - pilots out of habit took him for a Finnish pilot.
On May 17, Kostylev, together with Kaberov, shot down 2 messerschmites, which were controlled by German aces Gerhard Lautenshpager (31 victories) and lieutenant Ossi Unterlerhner (27 victories).
July 24, 1943 Kaberov was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 854). At this point, he managed to make 397 sorties, 92 air battles, personally shot down 8 and in a group of 18 enemy aircraft. By the end of the war, I. A. Kaberov completed 476 sorties, personally shot down 10 enemy aircraft and 19 in the group [2] . .
Since August 1943, he worked as an inspector-pilot in Yeisk VMAU. Since September 1944, he studied at the Higher Officer Courses of the Navy Air Force. Since January 1945, Major I.A. Kaberov has been at the disposal of the Pacific Fleet Air Force commander. From May 1945 to November 1946, he was the squadron commander of the 17th IAP, in which he participated in the Soviet-Japanese War. His squadron carried out tasks to cover the main base of Pacific Fleet and transports at the transition by sea, accompanied by torpedo boats. Personally completed 10 sorties on the Yak-9U, had no victories.
From November 1946 to May 1952 he studied at the command department of the Air Force Academy , then served in the Air Force of the Black Sea Fleet. From May 1952 to January 1954, he was an assistant commander for aerial combat tactics and aerial shooting of the 639th IAP. From January to November 1954 - senior navigator of the 49th IAD. From November 1954 to January 1960 - commander of the 661st IAP. Then - the deputy flight commander of the 4th IAD. Since 1960, the Guard Colonel I. A. Kaberov - in stock. He lived in the city of Veliky Novgorod. He worked as an engineer for the safety of passenger-and-freight facilities (from March to June 1962), a fitter of a television factory (from January 1963 to July 1964, from January to March 1968), and the head of the Novgorod airport (from July 1964 to December 1967 years), the head of the air sports club of the regional committee of DOSAAF (from March 1969 to November 1983). Honorary Citizen of Veliky Novgorod (since November 25, 1983). He died on October 2, 1995, was buried in the Western cemetery.

- Kaberov became the prototype of one of the characters of the book “Baltic Sky” by Nikolai Chukovsky - Kabankov.
