History

  • In the 1930s, there were constant street skirmishes between squads of fascist attack aircraft and anti-fascist organizations created for self-defense ( Rotfront , as well as similar organizations that arise among socialists and anarchists ). The clearest example is the battle on Cable Street . Already in Nazi Germany, an informal movement called the Edelweiss Pirates arose among young people, who participated in constant skirmishes with members of the Hitler Youth .
  • In the 1960s, the traditions of street fighters were continued by activists of the anti-war movement and Weatherman (organization) Meteorologists. In some countries, such as Italy and Turkey, street fights continued between leftists and neo-Nazis.
  • In the 1970s and 1980s, by most activists, street fighting as a method was rejected.
  • 1980 - the return of strippers in the ranks of the anarchists , in the form of the “ Black Block ” after performances in Seattle and Washington, then in 2000 in Genoa, and Quebec in 2001. The tactics of the “black block” include the construction and analysis of barricades, the destruction of corporate property and police vehicles, they throw stones at windows and police, use incendiary devices such as the Molotov Cocktail . Police officers, in turn, beat demonstrators, use tear gas , gas spray ( English pepper spray ) and rubber bullets . Anarchist Carlo Giuliani was killed in Genoa. On the other hand, many representatives of alternative globalism believe that the escalation of violence is a provocation of the police in order to discredit the movement.
  • 2005 - The French riot associated with the death of adolescents in a telephone booth.
  • December 2008 - The assassination of the fifteen-year-old anarchist Alexandros Grigoropoulos in Greece, which led to riots in Greece

In Russia at present [1]

  • April 11, 2008 - during the picket of anarchists on Slavyanskaya Square against police arbitrariness after the riot police attack on the demonstrators, it was the first time (apart from fan demonstrations) since anti-capitalism -2002 there was aggressive resistance to riot police: the anarchists fought with riot police and threw glass bottles at them. The area of Slavyanskaya Square was cordoned off by the police.
  • 2009, January - Moscow and St. Petersburg - during a march of anarchists and anti-fascists in memory of the murdered Markelov and Baburova, OMON was resisted [2] , windows and windows of several offices, a bank and McDonald's were broken, demonstrators blocked the carriageways with inverted garbage bins. Also during a clash with police in the Tretyakovskaya metro station, plafonds were broken. When an OMON attack on anarchists at the Okhotny Ryad station, one policeman was sent to a hospital.
  • July 28, 2010, Khimki , campaign to protect the Khimki forest : about 500 [3] anarchists and anti-fascists defeated the administration of the city of Khimki, using Molotov cocktails and fireworks and various improvised items. The police arrived at the scene 9 minutes after the incident.

Sometimes street fights with the police are the result of a general strike, as happened in 1919 during the Winnipeg General Strike, when a committee of local companies opposed to the strike hired hundreds of men instructed to suppress the excitement at all costs.
