Russian Academy of Education

The Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the RSFSR was established in 1943 , in 1966 it was transformed into the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the USSR under the Ministry of Education of the USSR ^[1] . The successor to the Union Academy in 1992 was RAO.

In 1992, the president-organizer of the Russian Academy of Education was appointed Doctor of Psychological Sciences A.V. Petrovsky . He was elected its first president (1992-1997) ^{[2] [3]} .

RAO Reform

In June 2013, the Government of the Russian Federation , represented by the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, initiated the reorganization of state academies of sciences ( Russian Academy of Sciences , Russian Academy of Medical Sciences , RAAS , the Russian Academy of Education, the Russian Academy of Architecture and Building Sciences and the Russian Academy of Arts ). In September 2013, the Federal Law “On the Russian Academy of Sciences, the reorganization of state academies of sciences and amendments to certain legislative acts of the Russian Federation” was adopted ^{[4] [5]} . In October 2013, with the election of Professor L. A. Verbitskaya as president of RAO, the practical implementation of RAO reform began, designed to make the Academy more dynamic and efficient. According to the philosopher and culturologist Sergei Gavrov :

“The education system should prepare not only an educated person, but also a citizen, a patriot of Russia ... State awareness of the role of RAO in the education and upbringing of the younger generation will make it possible to appreciate the Academy itself and its role in the life of the country.” ^[6]

According to the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation dated December 26, 2013 No. 1290, research institutes subordinate to RAO were assigned to the jurisdiction of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. The Ministry of Education and Science began to perform the functions of the founder of the research institute, although the names of the institutes retained the mention of the academy.

In December 2014, the reorganization of the institutes included in the RAO system was carried out - out of 22, 10 scientific organizations were created.

In October 2015, the KD Ushinsky Scientific Pedagogical Library was attached to the Academy of Education as a structural unit ^[7] .

The RAO has 284 members (128 academicians , including 29 women, and 156 corresponding members , including 60 women), as well as about 10 honorary and about 70 foreign members ^[8] .

In 2016, the honorary title “Professor of the Russian Academy of Education” was introduced, conferred with a restriction on age (50 years) for his merits in scientific activity ^[10] . Owners are considered as reinforcement and personnel reserve of the Academy. This title was introduced by analogy with the previously established title “ Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences ”.
