Geography

The length of the river from the confluence of the tributaries to the mouth is 148 km, if we take into account the Black Drin flowing from Lake Ohrid and flowing through the territory of Macedonia , the total length is 281 km. Measured from the mouth to the source of the White Drin, originating north of the city of Pecs in Kosovo, the total length of the river is 335 km.

On the coastal lowlands near the city of Shkodra, Drin is divided into two arms . A short (15 km long) and wide northern arm, called the Big Drin, flows into the Buna River flowing out of Lake Shkoder near the Rozaf Castle. The southern arm separately flows into the Gulf of Drin ( Pellg i Drinit ) of the Adriatic Sea near the town of Léger . Autumn-winter floods lead to flooding of the lowlands near the city of Shkodra. Earlier, the northern branch of the river itself reached the sea, but the flood in 1858 blocked this channel.

Economics

Drin waters are of great importance for the Albanian economy , especially in terms of electricity production. Three hydropower plants built on the river generate most of the electricity in the country. The largest reservoirs in the country are (area 73 km²) and Wau-i-Dejes (area 25 km²), formed by the dam of the .
