Club career
Albelda, a graduate of the Valencia canter , at first acted on the spot of the central defender.
At the time, he rented out to Villarreal and returned from there in 1998. Immediately got a broken leg, but returned to the main part just at that moment when the “bats” signed Barah . After moving to Valencia, Albelda truly revealed himself in 2001 in the team of Hector Cooper , when he played brilliantly both in the national championship and in the Champions League . In 2003, Albelda became the captain of the "Valencia", taking the captain's armband from Santiago Canizares .
Albelda, along with Baraha, Vicente and Canizares, made the greatest contribution to the success of Valencia under Rafael Benitez , the new coach who replaced Cooper. For three seasons, Valencia has won 2 Spanish champion titles (2002 and 2004) and the UEFA Cup (2004). At this time, a bunch of central midfielders Albelda - Barach was considered one of the best in European football.
In December 2007, Ronald Koeman , who came to the Valencia coaching post during the 2007/08 season, removed Albelda and two of his teammates (Canizares and Angulo ) from training with the main team [2] . According to the rules of the Spanish league, Albelda, who had spent more than 4 matches in the championship by that time, could not move to another Spanish team in the winter transfer window , and did not receive offers from abroad.
In April 2008, after the dismissal of the Dutch coach, David was returned to the team [3] . His first match after the break came in a humiliating defeat against Barcelona with a score of 6: 0, but in further games he still managed to help the team to leave the danger zone in the table of the championship of Spain.
After the story of the dismissal, Albelda lost the captain's armband, but despite this, he remained a player in the backbone of Valencia.
Albelda played for the bats until the end of the 2012/13 season, until Miroslav Dkukic became the head coach of Valencia, who said he did not see Albelda in the main team [4] , and therefore the contract with the player was not extended and he left the club, where he spent 18 years [5] . By the number of matches played for Valencia (485), Albelda is second only to Ricardo Arias and Fernando Gomez Colomer .
In August 2013, David Albelda decided to end his professional career.
