Career

Club

Almeida started playing football for the Nawal team, based in his hometown Figueira da Foz . The next stage in his career was Porto. Almeida made his debut in the Portuguese championship for Porto in a home match against Benfica on September 21, 2003. Porto won the match 2-0, but Ugu only spent about 3 minutes on the field. However, despite the inability to gain a foothold in the main part of Porto, the young striker continued to play at Leiria (with which he spent the full season before the debut at Porto) and Boavista on loan.

Almeida returned to Porto in the 2005/06 season, then he became an important part of the team that won the national championship that year. In the Champions League of that season, Ugu most remembered with his handsome goal from a penalty kick from 35 meters to the Milan “ Internazionale ” at San Siro [2] , nevertheless lost by the Portuguese 1: 2.

As part of the "Bremen" in July 2009

With the arrival of Edgar and Ernesto Faryas forwards at Porto in August 2007, competition in the attack sharply increased, and Ugu decided to leave the Portuguese club and signed a contract with Bremen Werder, [3] with whom he spent the previous season on loan. The German club then needed an attacker, because the leader of the attacks, Miroslav Klose, moved to Bayern , thanks to which Almeida’s chances of playing Werder were very good. And the season began for him as well as possible: in the first 12 games the Portuguese scored 7 goals. As a result, he scored 11 for the season (in Werder, only Diego and Marcus Rosenberg scored more for that season - 13 each ).

On December 24, 2010, Ugu Almeida moved to Turkish Besiktas , signing a contract for 3.5 years [4] . The transfer amount was 2 million euros [5] [6] .

On January 28, 2015, Ugu Almeida transferred to the Krasnodar “Kuban” as a free agent, with whom he signed a six-month contract with the possibility of further renewal if he falls into European cups in the 2014/15 season. May 23 left the location of the team.

July 8, 2015 signed a two-year contract with Makhachkala " Anji " [7] . January 13, 2016 "Anji" broke the contract with the attacker by mutual consent of the parties [8] .

January 16, 2016 became a player of "Hanover", the contract is designed for one and a half years.

On August 31, 2017, Almeida moved to Hajduk [9] .

International

Almeida played at all levels of the Portuguese national team: from the national team from 15 years to the main. He is the top scorer of the youth team of Portugal - he has 16 goals in various tournaments.

He made his full debut on February 18, 2004 in a friendly match against England , which ended 1: 1. Ugu was also part of the Portuguese national team that won the Toulon Tournament in 2003. Almeida played for the Portuguese national team and at the European Junior Championships under 21 in 2004 and 2006. Ugu also participated from his team at the Olympics .

Almeida was called to the national team for the qualifying matches of Euro 2008. In the match with the national team of Azerbaijan, he scored his first goal for the adult national team. He also scored the winning goal against Armenia (1-0).

After the second arrival of Carlos Queiroz to the post of the head coach of the Portuguese national team Almeida also falls into the team. Ugu scored his third goal for the main team in the qualifying match for the 2010 World Cup against Malta .
