Biography
He began his racing career in 1969, racing in sports cars in South America, then racing in the Argentine Touring Championship. In 1977, with the support of the Argentine Automobile Club, he moved to Europe, where he competed in the European Formula 2 Championship.
In 1979, he started in the British Formula 1 championship , where he won the Brands Hatch race and won three more podiums, finishing in fifth place in the championship.
At the end of the 1979 season, he made his debut in the Formula 1 World Cup under unusual circumstances: Brabham pilot Niki Lauda announced his retirement from the races during the training before the 1979 Canadian Grand Prix , and Sunino, who originally came to the race as a spectator, replaced the world champion driving a car. At this Grand Prix, Sunino took seventh place and received a 1980 Brabham pilot contract. After unsatisfactory performances in the first half of the 1980 season, he was dismissed from the team. In 1981, he held two more Grand Prix in the Tyrrell team, after which he ended his racing career and went into the tourism business.
