Umudlu ( Azerb. Umudlu ) [1] / Aknaberd ( Arm. Ակնաբերդ ) [2] - a village in the Caucasus . According to the administrative-territorial division of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic , which actually controls the village, it is located in the Martakert Shaumyan district of the NKR , according to the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Azerbaijan - in the Terter region of Azerbaijan . The village is located on the left bank of the Sarsang reservoir on the Terter River .

History
In 1912, according to the Caucasian calendar, 362 people lived in the village [5] , and in 1921 - 304 people, the entire population was Azerbaijani [6] . In the Soviet years, the village was inhabited mainly by Azerbaijanis [7] and was located in the Mardakert region of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region of the Azerbaijan SSR . After the collapse of the USSR, despite its actual presence in the Martakert district of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, it was included in the Shaumyan district and from 1995 to 1998 it was its administrative center [8] , which was subsequently transferred to the city of Karvachar . In 2005, the village population was 482 people [4] .
