On March 16, 1756, Princess Anna Amalia entered into marriage with the Duke Ernst Augustus Konstantin Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach , who had already died on May 28, 1758 . Declared the next year by the emperor of full age, she, as the guardian of her two sons Karl Augustus and Friedrich Ferdinand Konstantin, accepted the regency and did the job best.
Especially she cared about the upbringing of her sons and for this purpose in 1772 invited Wiland to Weimar . After the accession to the throne of Charles Augustus ( 1775 ), she mainly devoted herself to the care of the prosperity of sciences and arts. At her court she welcomed local and foreign poets, artists and scientists. According to Goethe , she loved the company of smart people and was in constant communication with them; there was not a single prominent person in Weimar who would not have worked in her circle at one time or another.
