Geography
The railway of the North Caucasian Railway ( Chertkovo station ) [4] runs through the village, which serves as the actual dividing strip between the Russian side (Chertkovo village) and the Ukrainian (Melovoye village, Melovsky district, Lugansk region) [3] .
Since 1991, the state border between Russia and Ukraine runs along Friendship of Peoples Street , located south of the railway line. Thus, the houses on the even side of the street are Russian, and on the odd side - Ukrainian. Accordingly, the villages are in different time zones and have a time difference [5] [6] .
The village is located in a five-kilometer border zone, so at the entrance to it there is a border customs post "Chertkovo" [5] .
Climate
Chertkovo has a temperate continental climate . Winters are moderately cold, summers are hot and long.

History
The date of foundation of the settlement Chertkovo is not exactly known. The history of the village began in connection with the construction of the Voronezh-Rostov Railway (subsequently the section of the Southeastern Railway ) on the border of the region of the Don and Kharkov Governorates - the Chertkovo railway station began to function. The station was laid down on July 8, 1869 [7] [8] and named in honor of the Ataman Mikhail Ivanovich Chertkov , at the request of which the laying of the railway line was started [9] .
In 1871, during the construction of the subgrade of the railway, poles with a telegraph line of two wires were installed. On Art. Chertkovo, like at other stations, a Morse apparatus was installed. Initially, the village consisted of barracks, several residential buildings, dugouts, and other buildings that were located along the railway. There was also a church, a drinking house, an overnight stay, and further - up to the Melova River - the steppe stretched.
In the list of settlements in the region of the Don Army for 1873, the Chertkovo station of the Voronezh-Rostov railway is mentioned. Then the station consisted of a stone passenger building of the station, a passenger and two freight platforms, a steam locomotive for 12 units, a water tank, two stone and eight wooden houses, a bathhouse, a laundry room with three stoves and other utility rooms. As station 11 class Chertkovo was equipped with buffets, bookstores and newsstands.
On the map of 1876 appears Chertkovo station.
By the beginning of the twentieth century, the substation village was getting stronger: a hospital and a railway station building were being built, a railway school and a one-class school were opening.
In 1905, during the first Russian revolution in Russia , with the creation of the Southeastern Division of the All-Russian Union of Railway Workers at Chertkovo Station, a committee was formed to supervise the revolutionary struggle of workers and employees of the road section.
Since 1929, it had the status of a working village. In 1993, the village of Chertkovo was transformed into a rural settlement.
