Pana Jane Radcliffe [1] MBE ( Eng. Paula Jane Radcliffe , December 17, 1973 , Davenham, Cheshire , UK ) is a British athlete specializing in long-distance running , running along a highway and cross-country . The current world record holder in the marathon since October 13, 2002 . The best athlete of the world in 2002 according to the IAAF (the only British woman in the history awarded this title) and winner of the AIMS Athlete of the Year Award 2002, 2003 and 2005 [2] .

Biography
Born in Davenham near Northwich, [3] Cheshire. In childhood, she was a rather weak child and suffered from asthma [4] . Began to engage in sports under the influence of his father - in the past, a famous runner marathon [5] . The first success for the runner came in 1992, when Paula became the world junior champion. The first prize at major competitions is the 1997 World Championship silver in cross country . In 1998 and 2003 she became the European champion in cross country .
Paula has no Olympic awards. Participating in the games of 1996 , 2000 , 2004 , 2008 , she in the finals of races nevertheless never rose above the 4th place. In 2004 at the Olympic Games in Athens , being the undisputed favorite, could not finish either a marathon or a race for 10,000 meters. After 4 years in Beijing, Paul was a leader in the marathon for a long time, but she almost stopped at the finish line, taking only 23rd place [6] .
Much more successful Radcliffe acted in commercial marathons. She won the most prestigious London (2002, 2003, 2005) and New York marathons (2004, 2007, 2008) three times. In 2003, during the London Marathon, she set a world record in marathon running: 2 hours 15 minutes 25 seconds.
Lives in Monaco . Married since 2001 to her coach Gary Low. In 2007, a daughter, Ayla, was born in their family, and on September 29, 2010, her son Raphael [7] . In 2011, she returned to the big sport. In December of the same year, it became known that Paul was included in the UK team for the 2012 Olympic Games in London [8] . However, shortly before the race, Paul took off due to injury [9] .
She completed her marathon career at the London Marathon on April 26, 2015 [10] .
Paula is the great-niece of British swimmer Charlotte Radcliffe (1903–1979), vice champion of the 1920 Olympics in Antwerp in the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay. [11]
