Biography

1985-1991

The Coroner band was formed in 1985 by Marcus Edelman (drums) and Tommy Wetterley (guitar). Also, guitarist Oliver Amberg and bass player Ron Broder joined the group. In 1986, the first demo , Death Cult , was released, featuring Celtic Frost vocalist Thomas Gabriel Fisher [1] . Amberg did not stay in the group for long and soon moved to Celtic Frost. It was not possible to find the vocalist and Broder took over his duties.

In 1987, the group recorded RIP Demo , and a little later, the first full-length album RIP . Harris Jones was producing and mixing. Despite the poor performance of Jones, the raw and aggressive Techno-thrash was liked by critics and the album had a very good press. And the track "Nosferatu" is recognized by many lovers and critics, one of the best instrumental compositions in the history of metal .

The following year, 1988, the group went the same way and first released the demo Punishment for Decadence , and a little later, an album with the same name. Gary Merlot was invited to record keyboards. The work again received excellent reviews from critics, but due to the cancellation of several tours and the lack of support from the label , it did not become popular.

In 1989, the even more progressive No More Color was released . Hard and high-speed guitar parts skillfully diluted with jazz inserts, which gave the album an even more unusual sound. The recording took place in Berlin, and for the final mixing the group went to the famous Florida studio Morrisound [2] . After the release of the album, Coroner had their first full-fledged tour, in which the legendary Watchtower performed on their opening act.

The Mental Vortex album, recorded in 1991, became a worthy successor to the ideas of No More Color , but because of the failed promotion, it again did not bring the group popularity.

1991-1996

In 1993, the band released its last full-length album, Grin . The recordings used guitar synthesizers, samples , acoustic guitars. Undoubtedly, he became the group’s most unusual album, and fans and critics split into two camps. Some believe that this record is a cry of despair, because, despite the excellent work on previous albums, the group never received the recognition that it deserved. Others believe that Grin is the best work of the group, in which the musicians really opened up and gave out the maximum possible. One way or another, and this release was not sold in the best way and the group decided to disperse.

Due to the fact that the team had obligations to the label, a collection of the best hits of the group - Coroner , diluted with several new tracks and remixes was born. Especially for the collection were recorded songs “Benways World”, “The Favorite Game”, “Shifter”, “Snow Cristal”, “Gliding Above While Being Below”, “Der Mussolini”, “Golden Cashmere Sleeper, Part 1”, “Golden Cashmere Sleeper, Part 2. "

In 1996, the group had a farewell tour and broke up.

2005 — Present

In 2005, rumors of reunion arose, but members of the group denied them. However, in 2010, they confirmed information about the decision to reunite to participate in the Hellfest Summer Open Air. To questions about the new album, guitarist Tommy Vetterly answers:

You know, creating an album is a difficult thing ... However, we never guess. Maybe after five shows we’ll get into a rage and say, “Hey! And let's record an album!” No one knows what might happen. We did not make any plans. [3] [4]
