Edward Hankins Tarr ( born Edward Hankins Tarr ; b. June 15, 1936 , Norwich , Connecticut ) - American - German trumpeter and musicologist.

He studied in the USA with Adolph Herseth (the first trumpet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for half a century) and Roger Voisin (the first trumpet of the Boston Symphony Orchestra ). Since 1959, lives and works in Europe. He studied musicology at the University of Basel , in 1972 - 2001 he taught at the Basel Academy of Music . At the same time, in 1985–2004 , he headed the Pipe Museum in Bad Säckingen . Since 2005 - Professor of the Karlsruhe High School of Music .
Tarr as an enthusiast of historical performance is credited with the revival of the baroque and romantic trumpet as a concert instrument. At the same time, he works with the modern repertoire - in particular, several works by Mauricio Kagel are devoted to Tarr.
As a musicologist, Tarr, in particular, prepared a complete edition of works for trumpet Giuseppe Torelli . He is the author of the book “East meets west. About the history of trumpet playing in Russia.
