History
It was officially opened in 1722 . In 1761, 125 people from the crew of the ship and 89 slaves were on the island as a result of a shipwreck. From the wreckage of the ship, the surviving crew built a small ship and sailed from the island two months later. They left 60 Malagasy slaves, promising to return for them. After 15 years, on November 29, 1776, fleet lieutenant Tromelin, commander of the ship La Dauphine , arrived on the island, where he found seven women and an eight-month-old baby. In honor of the lieutenant, the former Sand Island got its modern name.
