Egoyan, Atom

Atom Egoyan ( Armenian Ատոմ Էգոյան , Eng. Atom Egoyan ; born July 19, 1960 , Cairo ) - Canadian film director, screenwriter, producer, actor, editor of Armenian descent. The main themes in his work are the topics of alienation and isolation of a person, which are revealed through the images of people related to the development of technology, to the bureaucracy or other power structures.

Biography

Egoyan was born in Cairo . Together with her sister Eva (now a concert pianist from Toronto ), they were sent by their parents to the city of Victoria in British Columbia . As a teenager, he was fond of reading books and writing his own plays. Significant influence on Egoyan had the works of Samuel Becket and Harold Pinter . He graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in international relations and playing the classical guitar.

In 2002, Egoyan’s film “ Ararat ” was released on the Armenian Genocide , disapprovingly met by Turkey, which tried to hinder its screening at the Cannes Film Festival . [one]

Egoyan now lives in Toronto with his wife, actress Arsine Khanjyan , an ethnic Armenian born in Beirut , starring in many films of Egoyan, and son Arshil.
