Biography
Like his younger brother, Karl studied with his father Christian Joachim, a flutist and composer. As a child, he performed at the Casino Theater in Copenhagen in a duet with the equally young harper Franz Pönitz . From 13 years old until 1868 he was the first flutist in the Copenhagen Orchestra, led by Niels Gade . From 1869 to 1878 worked at the Royal Chapel in Copenhagen. In 1878 - 1880 he worked in the orchestra of the St. Petersburg Royal Chapel. In 1881 he moved to Germany. In 1882 he became one of the founders of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra , where until 1893 he played the first flute.
In 1893, Andersen stopped performing due to paralysis of the tongue (in this case, perhaps one of the symptoms of syphilis [1] ). In 1894 he became the conductor of the Tivoli Theater in Copenhagen . In 1897 he founded an orchestra school, where until his death he worked as a director and teacher. In 1905, Andersen was awarded the noble title by royal decree.
He played the flutes of simple systems, although many of his students, including the famous flute players Emil Prill and Ari van Leuven, played the flutes of the Bohm system .
He is the author of about 70 opus pieces for flute. The most popular in educational practice won the studies of Andersen, whom he wrote more than 8 notebooks.
