Keratomalacia manifests itself in the third stage of vitamin deficiency A. The disease usually affects both eyes, conjunctival xerosis occurs and then the cornea becomes cloudy. The yellow-gray opacification is located in the stroma of the cornea. Changes quickly move from superficial to deep layers. Simultaneously with clouding, the process of corneal decay begins. Within 1-2 days, complete destruction of the cornea and loss of the iris may occur. Due to the insensitivity of the cornea, tissue disintegration occurs painlessly.
