Island Records is a record company created in 1959 in Jamaica by two British producers Chris Blackwell and Graham Goodall. In 1962, the company relocated to the UK, where for many years it functioned as an independent record label, remaining the largest independent label in history. In 1989, Island became the property of PolyGram , losing its independence [1] .

In particular, records under the Island label were released on Bell Records (1967-68), A&M Records (1969-1970s) Asylum Records (1970), Capitol Records (early 70s), Warner Bros. Records (1975-1982), WEA Records , Atlantic Records (1982-1989), Phonogram Records (1971), Ariola Records (1971-1992), Dacapo Records and others. Among the artists whose records brought fame to the company are Bob Marley and U2 [1] .
