The early years
Cavizel was born in Mount Vernon , Wash . In the family of Margaret ("Maggie"), a housewife and actress, and James Patrick Cavizela Sr., a chiropractor. The actor has a younger brother Timati and sisters Anna, Emmy and Erin. The actor’s family lived according to strictly Catholic canons. James's father is a Slovak by mother and a romance by his father, and his mother is Irish by birth. James attended Vernon's school for about two years, then moved to Seattle and lived with a friend's family, at the same time playing basketball at a Catholic school. The following spring, he moved to another Catholic school - named after John F. Kennedy. There he played in a basketball team and graduated from high school in 1987. Upon graduation, Kavisel was enrolled in college Biliv Community, where he also continued to play basketball. Two years later, a leg injury ended James's basketball career. Later, he entered the University of Washington , where he became seriously interested in acting and became a member of the Sigma fraternity.
Career
After appearing in Wyatt Earp, Cavizel made a breakthrough in Terence Malik 's The Thin Red Line . He was also approved for the role of Cyclops / Scott Summers in the movie X-Men , but was unable to play due to his employment in another project, Radio Wave .
Cavizel began in such Hollywood films as “ Angel Eyes ” (2001), “ Pay Another ” (2000), “ Count of Monte Cristo ” (2002). In 2001, he starred in Madison , a film about the races in Madison, Indiana. The hero of the actor recalls the events of 1971. The film did not appear in cinemas until 2005. His work in the film “ Particularly Serious Crimes ” (2002) was praised by critics.
In 2002, he played in the film “My Name is David” on the Danish short story “Two: David and the North to Victory,” written by Anna Holm.
In 2004, Cavizel played Jesus Christ in Mel Gibson 's film The Passion of Christ . During the filming, the actor received a lot of injuries: due to the thick layer of make-up, his body was covered with blisters, and he could not sleep; he was hit twice with a whip, he dislocated his shoulder, received bruises under his eyes and a lightning strike (which, however, did not harm him). After the show, Cavizel was offered to become the face of the Heavenly fashion line, and, as he noted, this was a shock for many people.
Also in 2004, he showed interest in the role of Superman / Clark Kent in 2006's Superman Returns, promising to devote his role to Christopher Reeve . But the director of the film, Brian Singer, nevertheless rejected the application of the actor, explaining that Cavizel became too famous after the “Passion of Christ”. The role was given to the newcomer Brandon Routh .
Cavizel played a role in an unknown IFC project commissioned by Westen. Cavizel also got a role in Tony Scott's action movie Deja Vu. Cavizela’s voice was recorded in Thomas Nelson’s record company and in the fall of 2007 was put to music for the movie Promise.
From 2011 to 2016, Cavizel starred in the series " In sight " as the former operative John Reese, who, together with his billionaire friend Harold Finch, prevents crime.
In January 2018, Cavizel confirmed that he would return to his main role in continuing the story of Jesus in the film “Passion of Christ: Resurrection” [5] .
Political Activities
In October 2006, Cavizel, along with Patricia Heaton, Kurt Warner, and Mike Sweeney, spoke in a campaign against stem cell research on embryonic material. Cavizel began his speech with the words "Le-bar nash be-neshak" in Aramaic, which means "you betrayed the Son of God with a kiss." However, the broadcast of the speech did not include translation into English. Cavizel concluded with the words “Now you know. Do not do this".
They reacted to the performance as an acting performance and appreciated the acting talent of Cavizela. It turned out to be a complete surprise to the representative of the Republican Party opponent Fox, an ardent advocate of such therapy. As a result, the Second Amendment turned out to be just another attempt in the struggle for human rights.
Cavizel invested $ 2,100 in 2006 in an unsuccessful re-election campaign for Senator Rick Santorum .
Personal life
Cavizel, being a pure Catholic, preached at religious meetings even before the premiere of "Passion ...". On March 19, 2005, he was the main preacher at the first Catholic conference in Boston. Cavizel notes that he chose this conference only because of respect for the archbishop of Boston, Cina Cardinal O'Malley. His wife, Carrie, is also a Catholic teacher and flutist. Carrie supports single mothers and, together with other volunteers, set up a camp for children with disabilities in Malibu, California.
Cavizel is in touch with the Sigma fraternity, which he joined as a student at the University of Washington, and is a fan of the Minnesota Vikings. He claims that his 14-year relationship with his wife is so strong due to the fact that both often say "I'm wrong" and "I'm sorry."
James Cavizel has three adopted children, all from China. One of the sons had a tumor in his head.
