Falkovsky, Fedor Nikolaevich

Fyodor Nikolayevich Falkovsky ( 1874 - 1942 [1] ) is a Russian writer, playwright and theater critic, one of the founders of the New Theater in St. Petersburg [1] .

Biography

From a Jewish family [2] [3] . He studied at the Kharkov Veterinary Institute. Since 1894, he has been placing in newspapers stories, essays, plays, which have been published in separate editions under the headings “Merry Sounds”, “Last Day”, “Our Happiness”, “Falsehood”. In 1903, Falkovsky's first play, The Dream of Life, was staged in St. Petersburg. Further plays of Falkovsky, mostly adjacent to the new symbolic movement: “On Fire”, “Awakening”, “Weekdays”, “Wilderness”, successfully went to capitals and provinces.

At the beginning of the 20th century, his play “The Builders of Life”, which went around almost all the provincial scenes, was most popular. In 1912, F.N. Falkovsky staged the play "A Fun Story" on a private stage in St. Petersburg.

He became one of the founders of the "New Theater" in St. Petersburg . In December 1913 he organized the Queen of Spades cabaret theater [4] .

Being a neighbor of L. N. Andreev in the country on the Karelian Isthmus, maintained friendly relations with him [5] [6] , especially after the revolution [5] . In 1908, in the "New Drama Theater" of Falkovsky, the premiere of the play by L. N. Andreev "Days of Our Life" [5] took place . In 1916-17, F. N. Falkovsky was an employee of the “Russian Will” [5] . A few days before his death, L. N. Andreev and his family moved to Falkovsky's dacha in Mustamyaki, where he died [5] .
